Engaging Lives
by Elizabeth Thomas

For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 (HCSB)

As I read today’s quote, my heart becomes heavy. Agreed: culture does not dictate truth. The LORD, through the gospel of His Word, dictates truth. However, what depresses us is a culture here in the American church where minds, hearts, finances, time and priorities reflect the opposite. Pride, idolatry and deception block the believers from living as Jesus followers.

Love of money, success, accolades.

Love of popularity, self, the world.

What we must be are true worshipers of King Jesus, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor and leave the world and its deceit behind. Immanuel, God with us, is worthy and trustworthy! The Good News is He laid aside true glory. We are deceived if we believe laying aside the false glory of culture is missing out, losing or even boring. In truth, He rewards those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). My experience is that His rewards are greatly beyond and more satisfying than anything the world or culture offers. My life verse is Isaiah 30:15: “This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says, ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.’” (NIV)

Let us repent, abandon culture, finding rest in Him by following Jesus into true glory and lasting reward.

Prayer: Lord, today I ask that You help me use my time wisely. Don’t let me be pulled in by social media or television and find I’ve lost hours of my day. Let me spend more time studying Your Word so that I can know You better.

“The culture doesn’t dictate truth, the Gospel dictates truth.” – Voddie Baucham

Engage10K Prayer: Pray for the people of Mobberly to be open to the leadership of God through today’s sermon.
