THE PROVISION OF PRAYER

Gospel Urgency
by Harold Johnson

For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. – Romans 10:13 (HCSB)

Several years ago my wife, Sherrie, and I had what I now refer to as a “divine appointment.” Perhaps you may know how little snippets of time that happen over a life can have a significant impact or even change a direction or thinking.

Our work colleague and church friend, Kirby Bozeman, shared with us the missionary work of Ross and Sherry Collier and others in Malawi, Africa, and suggested that we should engage. Sherrie prayed and felt God’s call. I was reluctant, believing that we should support missions financially, but questioning why I would go there with no training. It would be better to support those that were called – at least that was my weak excuse. Nevertheless, I agreed to meet with Ross while he was stateside. He told me that investing in the trip and going to Africa personally would be transforming – not for those whom I engaged, but for me.

Indeed he was correct. It was truly amazing to see the Holy Spirit at work in many thousands of beautiful souls coming to Christ in one of the more remote regions in the world.

That first trip, and several thereafter, changed my thinking and my heart for obedience to the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20. My fervent prayer is that you, too, will submit to “engaging lives” for Him. It will transform you!

Prayer: Lord, today I pray for our brothers and sisters in Malawi. Continue to strengthen their knowledge of You through the study of Your Word. Guide them to those who need Your healing touch today. Break down the walls of superstition and unbelief among their people.
